The society is trying to prohibit the characters from all contact with the outside natural world, by distracting them with technology like the tv’s. This affects the society by creating a setting where people remained inside their home, as the natural world is banished, isolated or not allowed. The short story and the film version of the pedestrian are very similar as they both have a big role of propaganda use. In my opinion, having an extra character made the plot better by giving me a more clear view of the two perspectives of the story. Mead, they put this extra character to make it easier for us to understand the plot.
I think because the audience can’t hear the internal dialogue of Mr. There is no individuality or independent thought because the Bob is isolated from the real world, manipulated by the screens. He was so frightened to even open the door, because he has been brainwashed and controlled by the technology. Bob was influenced by the society knowing how bad it is to break the rules. Bob accompanies Mr Mead on his walks and shows his fear of the society and willingness to comply with the rules.

Although in the story Mr Mead was the only character in the movie they have an additional character, Bob, who effects the story completely by showing another perspective of the society. Everyone is distracted watching their television while Mr Mead is the only one who is not manipulated by the TV, and understands the real problems occurring in this dystopian community. Mr Mead is the dystopian protagonist in this story who sticks out from the others. “Height 6 foot 3 inches, age approximately 50, hair balding, eyes grey blue, scar right cheek, and weight approximately 235.” Yet in the story they don’t portray any of these characteristics. For example when the police in the helicopter ask Mr Mead about his profession they give a detailed explanation of his physical appearance. However in the movie they describe Mr Meads physical appearance, more than in the story. Mr Mead knows he is not allowed to walk outside but he questions society’s existing political system in both the movie, and the story. This represents how he feels trapped inside his confined community struggling to escape. Mr Mead is a writer and likes to walk at night even though it is forbidden. In both versions we are introduced to the protagonist of the story Mr Leonard Mead.
They are all remarkable points and should be discussed. There are similarities and differences between the book and the movie in the area of character, propaganda techniques, setting and the resolution. Both the story and the film are based on living in a futuristic society where everything is controlled by technology. A dystopian society is used to describe an imagined universe, that is unpleasant, and that is corrupted by oppressive societal control. In both the film and the book, the Pedestrian is set in a dystopian society in the year 2053. ” 1991, Ray Bradbury published his best selling fiction short story called “The Pedestrian.” Later Alun Bollinger directed a film version of the story.
